DROP IN PRICE OF GENERIC DRUGS HAVING HUGE AFFECTS ON PHARMACIES

Pharmacists are concerned for the fate of their profession, with a recent provincial announcement.
Health Minister, Kevin Falcon, announced a drastic decrease in the price of generic drugs to consumers which boasted to save tax payers million.
But the cuts are having huge repercussions in the pharmacy industry, with local pharmacies cutting workers hours, and closing early, to compensate for the decrease in revenue.
Local pharmacist, Nathen Kuriyama, says it's too early to give a dollar figure on how much pharmacies will lose annually, but the announcement has caused a huge shake up in the industry.
Kuriyama says customers will notice a difference in care, as due to decreased man power and operating hours, pharmacists won't be able to spend the amount of time they previously could, tending to patients.
He says independent pharmacies will be hit the hardest, as they are the ones who depend the most on revenue from prescription drugs.
